, this time of year, they can cost you big time as well. christie smith is live in oakland with that warning about fireworks. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. yeah, firefighters and police are talking about a couple of things, one is that it's going to be hot and dry this fourth of july which means higher than normal fire danger to keep in mind if you're using fireworks. around the bay area in cities and counties it's a mixed bag where you can and can't use safe and sane fireworks. we're standing at one of the fire stations where they have collection bins to get illegal fireworks off the streets. if you are caught with fireworks you can be fined up to $1,000 in the city, police and fire will be patrolling looking for people setting them off. we have youtube video of what not to do. there was someone shooting fireworks toward a b.a.r.t. train, possessing large quantities of fireworks could get you jail time, and fines of up to 5,000 to $10,000. there's also the danger factor involved with burns, even losing limbs, last year according to one consumer group about 8,600 people lan

that it's summer we're stuck in an active and persistent summer pattern with a big ridge of high pressure entrenched over the middle part of the country. the good news is we have relief on the way for the northeast by the end of the week. the jet stream and cooler air comes in from the north. however, by the time we head into the weekend that heat, the 90s and the triple digits, building back into the northern plains so no relief in sight at all for much of the south, in particular, the southern plains and, ann, keep in mind we're coming up on what's typically the hottest time of the year and that's july. >> thanks for the warning. >>> in washington, where the prospect of a major deal on raising the debt ceiling and fix the country's budget problems seems to be slipping away. chief white house correspondent chuck todd now joins us. chuck? >> reporter: ann, it wasn't the heat, it was the debt ceiling here in washington. lots of heated rhetoric. it got ugly and even a bizarre proposal in congress that could be a back doorway to solve the crisis. here's the president in an interview with cbs

-old, a student politician. this man's family called him a big bear, killed while trying to save his friends. some of the victims were immigrants or children of immigrants, the people hated so much by the killer, 32-year-old anders breivik. he used special bullets to explode inside the body. a doctor here said he'd never seen so much internal destruction. survivors are traumatized. >> i knew it was over. i knew this was -- i'm going to die now. >> reporter: adrian, 21 years old. >> he also screamed out that he was going to kill us all, that this was the day that we must die. >> reporter: adrian was shot in the neck and shoulder. he played dead. and anders breivik moved on. most of the teenagers had cell phones and called home. anguished parents called the police, and some texted their children throughout the ordeal. the first message from judy, 16 years old, mummy, tell the police to come quick. people are dying here. her mother couldn't leave the kitchen table. she answered, the police know. they've had many calls. give a sign of life every five minutes. julie, we are in fear of our lives. mother

the huge profits. >> yeah, the big news comes from google which before a few hours ago had been giving investors little to get excited about for sometime. but that changed tonight. google reporting quarterly earnings way above expectations, earnings up, profit up and google share price, way up. in after hours trading google stock shot up by 12%, that's more than $60 a share. look for google investors to be smiling tomorrow. the latest numbers are in from the housing market. for the last month bay area sales are up. that's the good news. the not so good news, housing sales are down from where they were a year ago, and last year as you know, not a very good year for housing sales. we have a new addition to the on like music wars. spotify, now available to us yanks, 15 million songs for free to download, eventually you'll pay to subscribe. spotify trying to challenge itunes in the way that google plus is trying to challenge facebook. happy surfing. >> thank you. we want to get to you breaking news now from the east coast. logan international airport, this is in boston. we have live scenes

coke and a big old burger. it's 5:18. stanford has gotten the final nod to begin a huge expansion of its hospital facilities. the council approved the project last night. the final vote had been stalled for a time after some parents protested the expansion would do away with a daycare facility. stanford agreed to relocate it including the expansion of the children's center. >> it's 5:18. great forecast, great temperatures. i know it's a little below average, christina loren. but it feels nice. >> it depends on where you're waking up with us. if you live in the city where it was overcast almost all day yesterday, you probably want that summertime weather to resume. and it will be back. i have the seven-day. high pressure has drifted to the east, just enough for us to see consistent flow, that marine air pushing into the area. so even with full sunshine inland we are only able to climb into the mid to upper 70s yesterday. so today even cooler, it's a cooler start and that means it's going to be a cooler afternoon. i'm going to have to work hard tear get our temperatures into mid-70s
